The ancient city of Thira is located on the top of Mesa Vouno at an altitude of 396m, in the southeastern part of the island. It has been inhabited for more than 1000 years and for a very long period it was the only urban settlement of Santorini. It was founded in the 9th century BC by Dorian colonists and was inhabited until the early Byzantine period.
The archaeological site is open from 8:30 to 14:30 daily (except Mondays).
